I'm trying to start up a new screenplay in the genre of Religious Horror, so I'm going back and studying as many films like that I can. I usually just dive right in to any writing project immediately, and eventually it all starts to fall apart because I don't have a good foundation. So, at the request of my fiancee, I'm trying to take a little time and actually research everything I can to make sure I build the right story this time. Currently, I'm watching the following movies:
The House of the Devil
Rosemary's Baby
The Wicker Man
The Last Exorcism
Suspiria
Martyrs
REC
The Reaping
The Exorcist
Martyrs isn't really religious horror. It is satire of media violence - telling the story that Funny Games failed at.
ReplyDeleteWatch Noroi: The Curse. That is by far the scariest movie I have ever seen, and may potentially be the best inspiration when sitting down to write a screenplay revolving around religion and horror.
Excellent! I'm definitely gonna have to check that out as soon as possible. I haven't really decided 100 percent what I want to do yet, but I'm leaning towards the kind of movie where an innocent protagonist starts experiencing creepy events and by the end you find out that they're being targeted by some kind evil/satanic cult.
